Canada Exonerated of American Allegations of Manipulating Bobsleigh Qualifying Event

The Canadian skeleton team have been absolved of charges that they rigged a qualifying event for the upcoming Games, which allegedly denied rival athletes a chance to secure their place.

A prominent American athlete a five-time Olympian accused the team from Canada of pulling four of its six entered athletes from a race in Lake Placid. The allegation was this reduced the field, making fewer qualifying points available. “The current IBSF Rules permit National Federations to pull competitors from competition at any time,” stated the International Bobsleigh & Skeleton Federation (IBSF).

Canada's Explanation

Reacting to the claims, the Canadian federation stood by the withdrawals, citing competitor health and the need for rest. Coaches from the US, Denmark, Israel, and Malta had voiced “deep worry” about the qualification process.

The Athlete's Future

The 41-year-old athlete, the 2026 Olympics are planned to be her final Games. Her path to qualification remains, the probable US team spots are expected to go to Kelly Curtis and Mystique Ro. Uhlaender is a former world champion whose best Games result was fourth place in 2014.
