Chiefs State They Are Aware of Domestic Violence Allegations Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise released a comment Wednesday night confirming they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver Rashee Rice and were in contact with the league office.
The team did not mention Rice specifically in their announcement and stated they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
The woman, who also did not mention the athlete by name, shared a set of images on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs selected in the second round.
Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable
No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles
Rice was absent for the initial part of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Texas roadway that left multiple people injured. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.
Statistically, he concluded the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns as the Chiefs finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a decade.
