Jurgen Klopp admits rejoining to manage Liverpool is plausible in theory.
Jurgen Klopp, who left Anfield in 2024, remarked that a future comeback is a possibility. The 58-year-old, after a transformative nine-year spell that included continental glory and the Reds’ first league title for three decades, has since taken on roles in a global football capacity within the Red Bull organization and as an advisor to Germany's league body.
Supporters’ Hopes and His Frank Comments
The club claimed the league title in the previous campaign, yet numerous supporters holding him in high esteem would embrace the notion of his potential comeback. During an extensive chat, he told his interviewer: “I said I refuse to lead any other side within the country. Which implies if then it’s Liverpool...yes. In theory, it could happen.”
“At 58 years old, so the choice could be mine later on, it's uncertain. Do I have to make the decision today? In that case, I'd stay away. But thank God, it's not necessary. I can just see what the future brings.”
Conditions for a Comeback
Pressed on the specific conditions would have to unfold to tempt his return to the touchline, Klopp admitted he was not instantly drawn for a comeback. “It's unclear to me, I enjoy my current role,” he said. “I don’t miss coaching; No desire to be in the rain for two-and-a-half or three hours; I'm glad to skip media briefings repeatedly each week or having 10-12 interviews weekly.
“The locker room isn't missed as a dressing room, but sitting in a restaurant with the players having a nice chat, that’s nice. Success was frequent so there was often positive atmosphere in the building. I still have the captain's chuckle ringing in my ears for example.”
Praise for His Successor
Klopp was full of praise for his successor, praising him due to the changes that won the league last campaign. The team has suffered a string of losses across various tournaments following significant transfers, but he rubbished the idea of it representing a decline.
“[Liverpool have] an incredible striker in Flo[rian] Wirtz, doubters will be silenced if spoken against. An outstanding player. [Hugo] Ekitike, excellent performer. This is a well-built well-judged squad. Fans shouldn't fret regarding the Reds, they'll bounce back.”
Emotional Tribute for the Late Forward
The manager expressed deep feeling about the death of the Portuguese star, a 2020 acquisition during his tenure, and the effect for the team. The Portugal international lost his life in a car crash together with his sibling in July.
“Who can fill the void of somebody like Diogo? It goes beyond his on-field talent, it's his character. It's hard to picture the squad missing him. I still cannot speak properly regarding this. A profound tragedy for all the boys also. Not a single person might employ it for poor performances but it is the situation. Being in that space where he was omnipresent. Handling this individually is not easy. Overwhelming.”
