Slot Maintains He Feels Secure and Retains The Club's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it's natural for questions to be raised about his position following a further heavy defeat versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their 9th defeat in twelve matches, marking the team's poorest run since being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, things are alright, I have got significant support from management,” Slot remarked.
“It's important to reverse this trend and get a victory of course but if you are in a managerial role and struggling then it is normal that people question you.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my situation. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his discussions with the team officials, the head coach said:
“We talk a lot. They are helpful to the team and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me all the time of the day to say they back me.”
He added, “In the normal conversations we have I feel the confidence. However I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat yet so we'll see.”
Familiar Problems and Player Response
The manager expressed regret over known shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League loss, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the current crisis.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder said.
“It's simply unacceptable. I don’t even need to wait to consider it. I’m past getting mad inside. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's tough because I play for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched this club for years.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side experiencing a period such as this with performances like these.”
He finished, “But we still have that badge on our shirts. And until that badge is removed, we’re always going to fight.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to its rightful place, show everyone again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the top club in the world.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it needs to change.”
