The relatives of young people lost after a tragic inferno at a bar in a Swiss alpine town are facing an agonising wait for confirmed information and appealing for information about their loved ones publicly.

The fire engulfed the Le Constellation bar in the alpine resort, located in the Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the small hours of January 1st. Circulated video show the roof structure being engulfed in flames as bottles with sparklers are held aloft.

Emergency services have indicated that it could take considerable time to formally name the victims of the disaster, which resulted in the death of numerous partygoers and hurt another over a hundred. Authorities noted on the latest update that the majority of the those hurt have been identified, with the process ongoing to identify the remaining few.

In the waiting period, relatives have been taking to the internet to plead for any news about their loved ones who were at the bar that fateful night.

Desperate Searches for the Unaccounted For

The resident of a town near the city, told a publication that she had gone back to Lausanne to check whether he was in the hospital, while his father did the equivalent search in the capital, but did not locate him.

She continued that some of his peers had been discovered with injuries covering a significant portion of their bodies. "It's indescribable; they endured a terrifying ordeal."

The Italy's foreign ministry has said that a number of of its young people remain missing.

One of those is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old junior golfer, who hailed from Italy but now residing in the UAE.

The national sporting body has released a tribute that he is dead, without directly referencing the fire, paying tribute to a "talented young man who carried with him dedication and true sportsmanship."

His father, told media that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around midnight. An representative has indicated that a formal confirmation of his death is still pending.

Other Cases

Giovanni Tamburi, 16, is likewise among the missing. His mother told reporters that he had been on vacation but had ventured out with friends and found himself at the bar.

"A companion said they ran away after the fire started and that he had his phone with him, but then at a specific moment he lost sight of him," she said, adding he had been wearing a distinctive piece of jewelry.

Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Swiss and Greek citizenship but lives full-time in Switzerland, was also present on that night, according to sources.

Her brother has posted an urgent request online, saying the relatives has had "no updates" regarding the teenager or the three friends she was with, who are also reported missing.
